Dealing with centrelink

1. Don't lie

2. Try to put the forms in on the correct date. (e.g. Wednesday, 12th July)

3. If two pages or less, fill out all sections. If longer, fill out as many sections

	as possible

4. You need to know which benefit you're applying for e.g. Newstart, unemployment

benefits. They don't tell you what's available.

5. If they request some statements, e.g. Employment Separation Certificate, try to

get them and take them in. There is a lot of work involved in doing this

however once the benefit has started the regaular forms aren't too bad.

6. It isn't possible to meet every requested item, e.g. training courses,

searches, etc, try to meet the minimum levels if possible

ID needed for a benefit

	Birth certificate

ID card with photo of some sort, e.g. driver's licence, other id card

Something with name and address on it, e.g. electricity bill, medicare

		statement.

2.

in detail

Go to the nearest centrelink office (locate by searching on the internet)

Stand in the queue at the counter

When you are at the front of the queue, they will say 'Can I help you' or something similar

Say 'I'd like to apply for the Newstart allowance'
